Project Overview

The Brief

PWS, a leading name in kitchen design and manufacturing, appointed Alpine Air to deliver a complete air conditioning solution for their offices in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. The office complex is a mix of open-plan work areas, private offices, meeting rooms, and collaborative spaces, each with its own requirements for comfort and usability.

The client’s priorities were clear: they wanted a system that was both energy-efficient and discreet, ensuring that staff could work in a stable, comfortable environment without disruption from noise or intrusive equipment. As the offices are heavily used throughout the week, downtime during installation also had to be minimised, with the project carefully phased to avoid interruptions to PWS’s daily operations.

Another key requirement was sustainability. PWS were keen to future-proof their facilities, meaning the chosen system had to meet strict efficiency standards while being reliable enough to support long-term operation with minimal maintenance.

Our Solution

Following a detailed survey and consultation with the client, Alpine Air specified a Mitsubishi Electric VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system. Mitsubishi Electric was selected for its outstanding seasonal efficiency, flexible zoning capabilities, and proven performance in commercial office environments.

The installation was carefully designed to suit the varied layout of the building. Low-profile ceiling cassette units were chosen for the open-plan workspaces, providing even airflow distribution and maintaining a consistent, comfortable temperature for staff throughout the day. For private offices and smaller meeting rooms, compact wall-mounted units were installed to give independent control while keeping the design neat and unobtrusive.

Our engineers worked to a phased schedule, carrying out installation outside of peak working hours where possible to minimise disruption. All pipework and services were routed discreetly within ceiling voids and service risers, preserving the building’s clean, modern aesthetic. As with all Alpine Air projects, the work was carried out entirely by our in-house F-Gas certified engineers, ensuring full compliance with regulations and manufacturer commissioning standards.

The Outcome

The project was completed on schedule, with no disruption to PWS’s day-to-day operations. The Mitsubishi Electric VRF system now delivers reliable year-round comfort, providing efficient cooling during the summer and dependable heating in winter. Staff benefit from zoned controls that allow different areas of the office to be managed independently, reducing wasted energy while enhancing workplace comfort.

Compared to more conventional HVAC systems, the new installation offers significant energy savings, helping to lower running costs and align with PWS’s long-term sustainability commitments. Feedback from the client has been extremely positive, highlighting both the quality of the installation and the discreet integration of the equipment within their office environment.

This project demonstrates Alpine Air’s ability to deliver complex commercial installations with precision, efficiency, and minimal disruption. By combining premium Mitsubishi Electric equipment with careful planning and in-house expertise, Alpine Air has provided PWS with a system that will continue to deliver comfort, efficiency, and reliability for years to come.
